Adults are the biggest fans of Harry Potter and personally, the transcends the generations.
Go for it! You will enjoy them.
I didn’t like the Order of the Phoenix but I liked all the others. I even have them CD and everyone in my famiy has listened to them (with a few exceptions). The narrator does a great job. If you have time, buy them on CD. If not, the reading is great too.
    Enjoy!!!!

  22. Lia A Says:

I’m in my twenties and love the series. Honestly, they’re so much more than a children’s series – the last two books aren’t really children’s books at all. I would highly recommend them. On top of the story, there’s a lot of interesting mythology imbedded into the series, and it’s one of the most complex series out there. The characters are interesting and unique, the plot will keep you turning the pages, and it really is worth the read no matter how old you are.

  23. BSBfan22 Says:

YES!!!! Definately read them!!!! They r really really good, i read them all. I read the 7 book in 2 days, cuz it was so good i couldnt put it down!!
seriously, they r not childish. they have adventure, suspense, romance, comedy, a little bit of scary here and there. they r the best, definately give them a try!!!!

  24. ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ Chrissy ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ Says:

I started them at 20 and there AMAZING!!! The first two or three books are more adolescent and they get more mature as you go on. But all of them are really good. My favorites are the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th! Second one is my least but there all great! :)

  25. Ame Says:

    Dear Questioner,

read the book it is very good and just because it deals with witchcraft and magical creatures that doesn’t make it childish a lot of the issues in the book are issues that many people face today, just symbolized in a different way. Ex bloodline in the book is racism in reality

    Sincerely,
    ………Ame…

  26. ~*Moi*~ Says:

    definatly read them

  27. pretty in pink Says:

definetly not childish…and your never too old to read harry potter. i mean my cousin is in university and she is like the biggest fan of harry potter. so in my opinion go ahead and have fun…and who cares what other ppl think.

  28. lovinlif041482 Says:

I think those books are very well written and a lot of time the movies leave out so much the books are usually better. I get really pissy hollering at the TV or really gripping to my hubby after we have watched one of them. Because I have read first then watched. I don’t suggest this for any book that has become a movie. I read them and I am 26. I was in my walmart at 12 o clock with lots of other people young and old when the last book came out. If you think you will like it read it. I go back a read things I wanted to read when I was twelve and forgot about until I am in that section with my sister or somebody else. I love reading and don’t care what people got to say about my choice. Its my choice!!!!! As it is yours!!!!!

  29. *()()() FurElise()()()* Says:

Of course not! The writing is on an easy level, but JKR is a decent author–so I wouldn’t consider the writing childish. I’m 16 and I read the series a few times every year. If you like the movies, you’ll LOVE the books. I admit the first 3 may be a bit childish, since Harry and friends are 11-13 years old, but once they get older the plot becomes more intricate, and the characters are easier to relate to because they’re older. READ THEM. Harry Potter rules <3.

  30. Pokemon Freak Says:

They are amazing! My mom loves them too! I read them and I am in the process of reading them again! They are not childish!! They have to be the best books ever!!

  31. Cutie GYMNAST Says:

If you spend a lot of time in you car, work or other location where you can listen to CDs. Buy or rent to Audio Books as performed by Jim Dale. I am 49 and have all 7 books on CD. They are fantastic stories and I listen to the at work.

The audio books are fantastic for long trips.

Start with book 1 because they all build on each other.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

    Hey!
you should definitely decide to read them! they were actually not originally written for children, they are very mature and explore emotions which can not relate to a child

i started reading them wen i was 15 because i always thought it was childish too but trust me when i say it is absolutely brilliant!

just remember magic is only th backdrop, the real issues are deeper!

  34. dragonfly Says:

yeah!they are brilliant! they are not childish at all,but if you do find them more childish than what your used to reading, you can get the adult versions of the book,i havent read these ones cos i find the others ok.do not miss out, there twice as good as the films!

  35. iheartipod Says:

From a HUGE harry potter reader, I think reading them is a good idea. They aren’t childish at all. People from all ages read them. I read the first chapter of the first book, and I’m totally in love with them. I think you will also enjoy them.

  36. Alice C. Says:

You should read the books! I’ve read all seven and I think that they’re actually better than the movies. They give you a lot more insight, details and the movies leave out a ton of parts that were in the books. I know of a lot of adults who are around 30 years old and still love the books. I advise you to go and check them out! They’re definitely worth it.

  37. Bree Says:

It Is Not Childish. I’m 14 (Child Yes, But I Read Books That My 50 Year Old Mother & 21 Year Old Sister Read) And Harry Potter Is Definatley Ok For The Older Crowd =]

  39. Chaos=Creativity Says:

No one is ever too old to read the Harry Potter books. They’re so not childish at all. J.K. Rowling develops all the characters in such a way that you can never put the book down. They’re really engrossing and gives you a lot of everything. Even though you’ve seen the movies, there’s more stuff in the books that they could fit in the movies. They’re definitely not written childishly.

Hope I’ve intrigued you enough to read them : – )

  40. cassiie Says:

The Harry Potter books aren’t childish at all, i personally think they are great for all ages. I started reading them when I was nine, I am now fourteen and still read them over and over again. They are the best read out, the only problem is that you can’t put the books down once you start reading :) Another thing as well the books are so much better than the movies, I’ve noticed that I understand more in the movies after I’ve read the book because they leave so much important detail out.

  41. albus dumbledore Says:

you will find the first two or maybe even three a little childish but as harry gets older u will start relating it to yourself and find it quite enjoyable

  42. Joe B Says:

definetly not childish the first to maybe a bit childish, the third is okay but from the fourth absolutely not childish

  43. tellejay Says:

They are brilliant books i have read them 3 times over and could go for a fourth or fifth they are awesome!

  44. Kay :) Says:

    Deffinately read them
My dad started when the 5th book came out
Yeh my dad in his 40s …
and he has read everyone now
they have harry potter books with “adult” covers if it makes it more mature.
It’t not a babyish thing you really have to read into them. There are really clever things from the early books that you realise are so crucial through the books. I won’t give it away but as you have seen the second film i guess you will be amazed how the diary becomes so important by book 6 and 7
And you are lucky as they are all out now you won’t have to wait a year between each book and forget what happens in the process! I’m reading them all back to back again. You will love them even better than the films! The films miss out some amazing bits!

  45. Sagar Says:

u shud definitely read them.i was also inspired to read the books after watching the movies.the books are legends.

  46. lost&¬yetfound Says:

You should totally read them all! They are amazing and so gripping!

The first two maybe three books may seem a little childish compared to the others, but who cares?! As you prgress through the books the writing seems to get more mature as JK Rowling comes into her own as a writer. After you finish reading all the books you realise how all the little things from the first few books come together in the end, and you appreciate them more as that is where it all started.

This is probably way too much, bu tI am really addicted to the Harry Potter series :)

  47. Nydia Says:

    they’re not childish
    read em’!
    or watch the movie :D

  48. smiley Says:

Give them a go. They’re definitely not too childish, my parents read them. Just be forewarned, they’re somewhat different from the movies. In my opinion, the books are better but a friend who has read them after seeing the movies liked the movies better. They are incredible books though so I hope you chose to read them.

  49. ruff_paw Says:

Harry Potter is a classic. It’s perfect for everybody. My parents, who are like, 40-50 read them. Their parents read them. My kids will read them.

If you feel awkward publicly reading a children’s book, well, they made the adult’s version for that purpose. It’s the same text, but has different covers. The style is not at all childish, but is not too mature or violent or complicated for young kids, so everybody can enjoy it.

The 5th was the most mature, I think, but somehow, I didnt like it. It was too long, dragging a bit, but it was still one of the best books I’ve ever read. Give it a try, if you don’t like it, well, that’s okay.

All my friends are die-hard Harry Potter fans, young and old
